About the Owner

John Started working in the Marine industry in Ft Lauderdale in the Year 1979.His first Job was in a factory where they manufactured North American Boats. It is now long gone but It is here where it all began. At North American boat Corp I worked primarily in the tooling Dept . Under the tutelage of A designer named Harry S. The relevance of this is Harry designed the “Delta Conic” hull revolutionizing design now out of patent for years and a feature on just about every small craft in production today. And we did it all with lumber and Formica Waxing the plugs pulling molds and building the cradles and tooling the molds to perfection. It is here where John Keened his eye to perfection as the Goal in every refinishing job. Tooling molds where, the part is as good as it gets is hard work and precise. Today it is done much differently with Big blocks of foam and a computer aided lathe they can turn years of work into months .

From there John worked for the fastest boat builders in the Ft Lauderdale area in the 80-90’s. Doing just about every task over the years building the boats from start to finish and all that goes along with the FRP side Repairs and production. Not a motor guy although I have installed many outboards and inboards over the years I know little about the fixing of either. Some of the Manufacturers I have worked for Donzi Boats when they only build 2 boats a week in Oakland park Florida in 84′ Sonic boats , Velocity where I worked on the first Mono Hull over 30′ to go over 100 MPH in for a guy named Steve S. called the Scarlet Ohara . It was a 33′ Apache all power. . Back then it was the beginning of the Composite era and that boat weighed 10000 LBS a lead sled! Today they are building stronger boats at 33′ weighing 7-8000 LBS . The difference composites have made in FRP and the marine industry is vast and ongoing I was there before composites were used when they built boats out of heavy woven roving and wood which made the heavy and prone to Rot. was at the beginning of he introduction and perfecting of vacuum bagging, PVC foam coring, milti-directional laminates. Graphite and Kevlar reinforcements of the technology used today and am still learning more everyday.

Then I moved to Saint Petersburg and continued working for the Go fast guys including Spectre powerboats in largo Florida. Intrepid power boats a Fine manufacturing facility where it is “perfect” or it does not leave the factory. I then moved back to Ft Lauderdale for a few years and got back into the industry in repair facilities. Hooked up with a salvage guy who bought boats from insurance companies for pennies on the dollar and fixed them and resold them boats big to small. Holes big enough to walk though to gouges and chips you name it i saw it, and I fixed it. Now I reside in Lee county and have been working on boats here for 15+ years over 45+ in total I Know how todays boats are constructed. I know how old boats are constructed. I have work on ALL types of boats from power to sail to high end luxury Yachts . I would consider myself and Expert in Fiberglass repair and construction FRP, paint both single stage and 2 stage paints with graphics. Bright work, rolling and tipping of linear polyurethanes like Awl grip and Sterling you name it. As far as making something that was Beautiful ,Beautiful again I am the guy for the job. “EVERY Boat Deserves a second Chance” I want to make it shine for you again
